At the age of seven, Jennifer's life was dramatically changed from a world of dancing and softball to one of needles, blood tests, and dietary restrictions. Now, nineteen years after her diagnosis as a type one diabetic, she has channeled her experiences into a new path and purpose as Miss West Virginia in 2024.

Jennifer’s volunteer efforts have made a significant impact, raising over $10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  She has organized preventative screenings at community health fairs and medical services for children at the Diabetes Camp of West Virginia. Her 500-plus volunteer hours in rural health clinics earned her the prestigious West Virginia Rural Health Scholarship. But it is her Wellness Warrior Pledge that she created and holds dearest. With over 2,000 warriors pledged, the number continues to grow as she travels the Mountain State.

A native of Wheeling and now a practicing Physician Assistant in Charleston, West Virginia, Jennifer Reuther is taking her initiative, Wellness Across West Virginia, personally and professionally.  A graduate of the University of Charleston with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and Marshall University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Jennifer advocates for wellness by providing screening services and education to over 3,500 students through the West Virginia CARDIAC Project and KEYS 4 Healthy Kids.

Jennifer’s wellness initiative is a perfect fit with the #MissAmericaFit. The iconic Miss America brand, in partnership with the American Heart Association, launched a movement aimed at young women to raise awareness and fight heart disease. “The Miss America Competition doesn't just appraise your physical appearance, but your optimal health,” Jennifer believes.  Her goal is to promote behaviors that lead to a healthier life, regardless of an individual’s current health status.  In a state like West Virginia, her message and goals are not just important but life-saving.

Join Jennifer and take the Wellness Warriors Pledge yourself, book her for an appearance at your school, community event, health fair, or clinic, and follow her on Facebook every Wednesday for wellness tips for healthy living.
